Hey there. Whoever you are and wherever you are, if we are the right family for you or not, we are thinking of you. You are loved. You got this. We have a lot we wish we could tell you, and a lot we wish we could hear about you and your story. Maybe we’ll have the chance someday to get to know you, to have you show us what this was like for you. Until then, we hope this will give you a glimpse of the love we have for each other, and the love we have to give. Adoption is already part of our story - Maddy got pregnant in high school, and chose to place her bio son with an adoptive family. It’s impossible to describe the experience, but seeing her bio son thrive with his family means everything. They’ve remained in contact since his birth 15 years ago, and got to meet - and hug! - in person a few years ago. Richard and Maddy grew up in the same small hometown in the Midwest. Our families knew each other, but we didn’t meet until after college. A whirlwind romance has turned into 9+ years of our best lives: Richard is a chef and a dreamer, and Maddy is a well-fed computer programmer. Our hiking, camping, and entrepreneurial adventures reflect how great it is to be married to your best friend… even though we both think we’re the funny one. We both have large families nearby, and both consider family the most important thing. Friends are a close second. Adoption is already prominent in both our family and friends - our best friends adopted their oldest daughter as a newborn, and Maddy’s youngest cousin is adopted. We know this is the right thing for us. Anyone out there trying to make tough decisions – we’re thinking of you and sending good vibes.

Richard & Maddy

Favorite season and why?

I love all the seasons for differen't reasons. I love Spring for all the new growth. I love Summer for the sun and pool hangs. I love Fall for the sweaters, football and fire pit hangs. I love Winter for the snow, coziness and Christmas gatherings with our large family and friends.

If you had to live on an RV or sailboat for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Definitely RV! Richard and I love to hike and camp, and while I love the beach and respect the ocean, I could never relax knowing I'm one angry shark or bad storm away from a Castaway situation.

-Maddy

If you had to live on an RV or sailboat for the rest of your life, which would it be?

RV for sure. We love roadtrips and adventures. The thought of being in the middle of the ocean the rest of my life kind of freaks me out. Deffiantly choose the RV.

I hope our child’s birth mother is…

Supported, feels loved and realizes how special they are.

-Richard

My favorite place in the World is...

Our home and anywhere our family and friends are. Other than that I would say being in the mountains of Colorados.

-Richard

We are the best choice because…

We have so much love to give. We choose happiness on a daily basis. Our core believe is to give love to those around us no matter the circumstance. The baby that comes into our life will be adored and told that they are loved by so many people every single day.

-Richard

If I could choose one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be:

Wow. This is an impossible question for me. I love so many different types of food and have built a career making all types of different foods. You are making me choose thoogh...Tacos. Tacos for sure.

Complete the sentence, “I can’t live without……”

Cooking for my loved ones and friends.

-Richard

Complete the sentence, “I can’t live without……”

Besides the obvious answer of my people (seriously we have incredible people...) I CANNOT live without my snacks. Fancy snacks or gas station snacks, I get so happy when it's time for a little treat.

-Maddy

Dogs or cats?

I love all animals but if I HAD to choose - doggos for sure.

-Richard

What scares you?

I'm terrified of creepy bugs in general, but if a centipede ever crawls on me I think I will simply pass away (Obviously I'm also terrified of never having a family with Richard but that's kind of a downer...)

-Maddy

If you had to pick a famous person to play you in a movie, who would it be?

I would pick Jason Segel because he is hilarious and I've been told by several people that I resemble him. Also - I have met him in person and he is such a kind and loving person!

-Richard

What scares you?

The thought of eating bland food the rest of my life! On a more serious note, living life without Maddy is the scariest thing I can think of.

-Richard

What is the best word to describe our family?

Full of love. We love to laugh and be surrounded by all the beautiful people in our life.

-Richard

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you look at the night sky?

How lucky we are to be alive and witness all the beauty that we have been given.
